Living Your Life With Purpose

Daily Thoughts

Yesterday I was listening to a one hour interview with J.K. Rowling. I felt very emotional as I listened to her speak about life before Harry Potter, and her life now. Growing up as one of the millions of readers of Harry Potter, I’m sure we were all very influenced and inspired by the series. Her views on failure, success, fame and money. My goodness, I think that she is one of the most humbling and wise people that we so deeply need in the world. In one part of the talk, she mentioned how many people assume when they have a lot of money, all their problems can be solved. Yet, they have not yet realised that money cannot solve everything. Money cannot buy happiness. At least, the kind of happiness that is genuine, true and long lasting.

She also talks about how many people avoid failure so badly, because of the fear of failure that they have already invited themselves into it. The fear of failure is the fear of trying. It’s the decision to stay put within our comfort zone, rather than soaring our wings into other possibilities. As a child we have enthusiasm to keep trying, but as an adult we can often be so incredibly hard on ourselves. It just reminded me how much of our lives should be lived with purpose. We were brought onto the Earth for a purpose. Even in the moments when you feel completely worthless, remind yourself that you are here for a reason. The meaning of purpose from

  • the feeling of being determined to do or achieve something

No matter how we live our lives, each and every one of us know deep down that we need meaning in our lives. When we create purpose in our lives, it gives us the strength to keep living. We get in life what we give. True success is rising others. Purpose is also having values in your life. Something I ask my self everyday is: How can I be better than I was yesterday? It’s that question that keeps me striving to be a better person. It makes me accept my mistakes and not let them define me.

What matters most to you could be your biggest passion and motivation. When you find it or know it, you already have the first step in living your purpose.

  1. This is a beautiful message and as motivating as the interview.
There is nothing noble about being better than your fellow human. True nobility is achieved when you are better than yourself of yesterday. This we should constantly strive to achieve.

    1. Thank you. I like that you mentioned nobility, because change always comes from within. “Comparison is the thief of joy” shows us that our personal happiness in life comes from within, not others. You said it very well “True nobility is achieved when you are better than yourself of yesterday.”
