5 Things INFJ People Want You To Know

(All italics from http://www.16personalities.com)

I remember when I use to take personality tests, I didn’t take them seriously because let’s face it, everyone is so wonderfully different in endless ways. However, after taking this particular personality test, there were many aspects I could 100% relate to. I took this test several years ago as well, and have always gotten the same result. In saying that, I have changed a lot over the years, but my core values have always stayed the same. So..if you would like to understand INFJ  people (in general), please keep reading.

‘The INFJ personality type is very rare, making up less than one percent of the population, but they nonetheless leave their mark on the world…and they tend to believe that nothing would help the world so much as using love and compassion to soften the hearts of tyrants.’

Honestly, who wouldn’t believe that though. Love and compassion wins out to everything.

‘INFJs find it easy to make connections with others, and have a talent for warm, sensitive language, speaking in human terms, rather than with pure logic and fact…. INFJs take great care of other’s feelings.’

Personally, I feel like when two people talk you can feel the spark in the first 5 minutes. If you are both talking about how both your cats like to scratch couches or how there are 50 ways to get to the land of Narnia with sheer enthusiasm, you know this person is relateable.

Everything else is self explanatory:

‘One of the things INFJs find most important is establishing genuine, deep connections with the people they care about.. Few personality types are as sensitive and mysterious as INFJs. Your imagination and empathy make you someone who not only cherishes their integrity and deeply held principles but, unlike many other idealistic types, is also capable of turning those ideals into plans, and executing them.’

5 things INFJ people want you to understand (from my perspective)

1) Deep Thinkers. We are deep thinkers. Which is why we need certain ways to express ourselves, whether it is playing a musical instrument, creative writing or dancing. This is because it can be difficult to express certain thoughts into words to others. It is easier to use emotional outlets to let go of certain thoughts.

2) Dream Thinkers. We float away in thoughts. It can seem like we belong in another world with our true self hidden away only to be untamed by certain people. Only the few rare people who will understand your weird sense of humour and your pattern of thinking.

3) Friendship. It is harder to create long term friendships with people. For me, I only have one closest friend I can possibly think of. Even then, I have never expressed to them or any friend my deepest, darkest (or brightest) secrets. We tend to keep it in our hearts and the difficult side of that is when we just begin to make friends, a side of us wants to show them our sensitive, deep side.

4) Sensitivity. We are highly emotional. We take criticism to heart, and try to separate it into the categories of helpful or hurtful. Although, the tricky thing is INFJ’s will often keep layers and hide their sensitivity which can lead to a volcano. Volcano is defined as: a burst of emotional outlet of all the emotional larva inside. Note: INFJ people do get angry, upset and wild too. We tend to only show very specific people who will ever see us this way.

5) We are complex. There are many questions an INFJ asks others (in their head) and mostly themselves. When we talk to people, we don’t just want to ask how are you? we want to know your story and your beliefs. Yes, none of the gossip or shallow talk, because INFJ are at the very core of the heart of wanting to see the true nature of people.

  1. These five things are soooooo true for me as well. I write to express myself, daydream all the time, have very few close friends, often react like a volcano (love that analogy), and crave depth in relationships. Thank you so much for sharing this, and thanks for the link to my blog :)

    1. I am so glad that you can relate to it too! I really enjoyed reading your blog post, it inspired me to write about it myself and it was very encouraging to know there are other people who feel this way too :)

  2. That’s so close to mine! I’ve done this test recently too and got ISFJ who are the altruistic, perfectionist and realistic ones! 😁 High five! ✋

  3. Hi, I took the test and also got the INFJ trait. I took it because I remember taking it with a friend a year ago and not understanding what it meant. This post really spoke to me and now I know why :)
